This short piano piece is the first in a series of impromptus inspired by the sounds of childhood, namely music from early Nineties eight-bit gaming systems like Nintendo. This early-intermediate level composition is meant to be reminiscent of the themes from the game Contra, although I only drew upon distant memories of what those themes sound like. More important was the attitude and ethos of the game, which could be summed up by the words fight for your life! Although the texture of the arrangement is thin, the syncopated rhythms are a bit challenging for younger students and the antiphonic relationship between hands requires careful counting and coordination. Octaves are used throughout in the left-hand.
