This fun, atmospheric piece for piano was written late at night. Its use of exotic harmony (chromatic mediants, slash-chords, upper extensions) creates a rich, dark palate over which a haunting melody sings.
On the first page, the performer must sometimes grab notes with the LH thumb in chords that appear to be played by the RH. The student must also take care on the second page to observe the cross-overs with the left-hand. The effect is of have three hands at the piano. Pedal is used throughout. The amount of less-conventional roles between hands makes this piece good technique-building repertoire.
